BLEEDING COOL’S Eric Esquivel interviews CHRISCROSS about Stephanie Brown, Barbara Gordon, Smallville:Detective and things Milestone

It was great doing the type of interview that i did with Eric Esquivel technique-wise. And he’s a spirited lad. πŸ˜€  You can tell in the questions he asks.  He likes to stir that pot. I’m good with that.

No beating around the bush, no sidestepping, no half-stepping either.

If i could only do more interviews where i’m getting the questions by email that allows me to continue to answer as if we’re actually talking back and forth like this one….. instead of the same “here’s my question, fill in the blank” response, my interviews would be more organic.

One thing is for sure, after the interview, it got me thinking about where Milestone Media would be if it was allowed to fully realize it’s dreams. What kind of company would it be if it were to break away from DC to become it’s own entity?  Would it be the next Dark Horse? Image?  Would it be connected to movie houses and production companies?  How would the characters be regarded?  How would the populace respond to an exclusively independent African American owned company?  How would the owners have evolved?  Dwayne McDuffie, Derek Dingle, Denys Cowan, and Michael Davis (my apologies for almost forgetting to type you here, Mike)… What kind of leaders would they be if the roof off of Milestone had just exploded and the world of transmedia were at their fingertips?

IT was a great ride when it was forefront in the comic world’s eye.  And they changed the industry. I can only hope that when it’s my time to shine, i’m able to carve my part in this slab.

That being said, Eric posed some focused views on questioning culture in comics and if what was being done was enough.

Go.

Read what i said.

Even the goofy parts. πŸ˜€

Oh yeah. i just caught a wave.  I really miss Dwayne.

PALMIOTTI INTERVIEWS ART THIBERT AND CHRISCROSS…INDEPENDANT ROAD PODCAST

This is probably the second podcast i’ve been interviewed on about me and my work through the years. My boy, Vito, is more the expert in doing the podcast thing. I need to get into it more.  I really decided that in the last couple of weeks that people really need to see me. Me. DIVA-CROSS.

Peter Palmiotti does  a podcast called INDEPENDENT ROAD.  He’s a freelancer himself so he understands the rigamarole.  What’s funny is that Art Thibert…. T-Bear for those still calling him THIGHBERT… is just having this quiet conversation with Peter and then here i come..

“HELLO?  HUH-HELLO?  IS ANYONE THERE?!!”

ALL loud and ghetto… πŸ˜€

But it’s funny and had me laughing like this bumbling dude that just burst in the door like Kramer in Seinfeld.

The only thing i didn’t ask was “who saw that turnip slide into the elevator??” and spaz so much my afro… if i had one… would shake like a fern tree in an earthquake.

annywayyy…

So, Art (Thibert) was great and so was  Peter.. the next Charle Rose…

and i got to finally talk to a great inker like Art , whose work i’ve collected way before i got into comics.

So listen in, and enjoy.

i called T-Bear STINKY.  heheh…..

T-Bear cuz its not ThighBert.

oh.

 I said that already.

Just listen.

CK61938 VIBING ON THE BATMOBILE DESIGNED BY CHRISCROSS

NOW.. i don’t usually deal with people’s reviews. It’s been my experience that most reviewers that take it upon themselves to review comic work in general… or even my work… can be scathing for no reason and critical with no understanding of the concept of what i do or why i do them… and my advice is and will always be… if you’re going to do reviews of anyone’s work in comics, you’d better know your stuff.   Otherwise, artists, writers and colorists will NOT like you.

that being said, someone turned me on to this brother Brit on YouTube and he’s been reviewiing and chronicling Smallville Season 11 since it’s inception on the digital landscape.  And i gotta say, he’s very respectable, if he makes mistakes, he will issue an apology and get the actual facts of the matter exposed and when he reviews, he’s really just giving the chronicling of what he read without the sensationalist nonsense… and never gives the spoilers.  So kudos to the man in CK!!

and he’s digging the Batmobile i designed and he gets that i wanted it to be massive and agressive.  As he says, ‘IT’S A BEAST.”

Yes, CK. IT’s a BEAST!! :OD  So much so, i really want the cast of the guys from DREAM MACHINES on SYFY Channel to make one in the real world. How cool would that be?

FACETS OF CREATIVITY INTERVIEWS CHRISCROSS

It’s been a bit since i’ve done any interviewing, but i decided that has to end.  So in keeping with me finally coming out of my cave, i’ve been setting up an interviewing tear.  This is the first of a couple that i’ve set up to let people know what i’m up to.  Wesley Sherrod runs the Facets of Creativity blog and when he asked to do the interview, i had no problem with it.  So please do…

… read it and enjoy.

He even surprised me by tracking down some old art from other books past and left for your perusal.

Nice!

JOSEPH P. ILLIDGE: an editor in a NO MAN’S LAND

This blog isn’t just about me, you know.  It’s also about many other interests…. Like my dear friend and colleague, Joseph Illdge, having a say about when he was a part of a major storyline in DC Comics… a storyline that changed the shape of the way Batman was being told. It’s great to be  on the forefront of something everyone enjoys yet no one cares to know the inner workings of, …

that is …

unless it’s being presented to you… then it’s like..

Ohh YEAHHH… that’s what happened.

So…

SEE WHAT HAPPENED!

Read Joe’s interview and like it!! πŸ˜€

The progress of NIGHTWING: before she became Barbara…

When Bryan Q. Miller and i sat down on the phone and hashed out the details about NightWing, he at first thought it would be great to give her purple hair… which would be cool, but i thought that doing so while Hit Girl was still in the thoughts of many fans may encroatch on the popularity of Stephanie Brown. Who was NightWing before the echelon decided Barbara was the way to go.

Poor Stephanie.. If she was black, i’d pull the race card. πŸ˜€

She don’t drink, she don’t smoke and she’s a great athlete.  Someone needs to come up with a great schtick for her. She’s DUE.

Speaking of Negro… the color in spanish, not the name for my culture in the 70’s… :D, My first thought was if we’re doing Stephanie Brown why not have the Smallville version of her be ethnic?  Like Stephanie Brown the SISTUH?  No one would expect it, i think people would except it because anything can happen in Smallville and you can take chances where everything is more rigid and set in the DCU.  I think i scare Miller a bit. HEH…  yeah, that’s the ticket.

I thought it would be great to see Bats with a black sistuh-soulja and they can both get all urban-guerilla and stuh…

Who’s going to believe that a blond white girl is living the rough life in the ‘hood?  I thought it would be great to bring in a more diverse contingent.  Not so.. how do you say… uh.. UNIVERSAL.

Yeah… that’s the ticket.

But he wanted to see it and i let it fly but i also put some cool stuff together face-wise on the blond sistuh-soulja.  White girls can fight too. Just watch the YOOTOOBZ. πŸ˜€

I wanted my version of NightWing to be memorable yet funky. So i did some small sketches and let them run with it.  Hope you see where i was going with it.

If you’ve been collecting the Smallville epps and issues, you already know which way the echelon went. πŸ˜€

Hey, it’s all good.  Hope you like the sketches and a small view in my head. The color versions of NightWIng is next posting. πŸ˜€
